Animals
I have always been an animal lover. One of my inspirations in photography has been the challenge of capturing images of wildlife and animals. I have always been partial to bears, and was really hoping we would come across some on our journey. And we did! As well as deer, elk, coyote, buffalo, fox, and many other wonderful critters.
Chiang Mai Zoo has around 400 species of animals spread across 200 acres on a hillside. Beautifully landscaped and designed, well worth a visit to see the inhabitants of this park.

My expectations were built up high in anticipation of visiting this animal park, perhaps that is why I felt a little disappointed with what I found.

Animal Ark is a haven for neglected, abused or confiscated wild animals. Wonderful staff, very committed to the care of those in their care.

Furry friends, the kind who steal your heart and dominate your life. Yes, I am talking about the dogs and cats in our lives. Studies have shown having a pet can lower blood pressure and help extend the life of seniors. Considering the amount of love and devotion an animal is willing to give, it is not surprising. Love is a powerful healer.

Cats, those independant fur balls that capture our hearts with their purrs and antics. I know, I need to work on my cat photos. Even though I am a dog person, I still love cats too. In fact I enjoy all animals.

When I first got my camera and we set out on the road, I was so excited about the possibility of seeing wildlife and actually taking photos of them! Of course my favorites are the bears.

Personally I have mixed feelings about captive animals. It is wonderful to be able to go visit animal parks and see animals up live and close, but how is it for the animals?
I have visited some zoos that I felt should be shut down, the care of the animals was atrocious, and the cages small. But then I have been to other zoos that have been well kept, the animals are kept in large natural areas, and for captive animals they seem to be doing fairly well.
Santa Barbara Zoological Gardens has always been my favorite, based on the natural habitat they try to provide for the animals. Unfortunately, I have not been there for years, and have no photos. Maybe someday I will return.
