Sanur, Bali’s Watersports Paradise
My original plans were to spend 3 days at Lovina Beach, 3 days at Ubud, and my last night at Sanur, a beach town close to the airport.
Friday morning I was torn about leaving Ubud. I really liked my room, I could spend the day visiting the monkeys again, catch another live performance by Griya Faria that night, and take an early bus to the airport in the morning. Tempting! But alas, I chose to stick with the original plan. I wanted to see more of Bali, particularly the beach on the south east side of the island. Sanur sounded good to me, I hear it isn’t usually as crowded as Kuta. I arrived in Sanur around noon. My driver dropped me off at the boardwalk of Sanur Beach. |
I settled into my room, then took off to explore Sanur and find a bite to eat.
The beach is beautiful and very well maintained, with periodic walkways that lead out to a gazebo for sea gazing. You can relax on the white sandy beach, vendors selling cold drinks are just a few steps away. The boardwalk is full of merchants, but not many restaurants.

I finally found a place I could grab a bite to eat, and enjoyed watching all the water sports enthusiasts enjoying the water. It became apparent quite quickly that Sanur is really a water sports paradise. Great beach for Windsurfing, Parasailing, Jet Skiing, even Surfing!
Many opportunities and choices for playing at Sanur. You can ride a catamaran, or catch a cruise to another island.
After lunch I decided to walk into the town. Sanur is a bigger city than Ubud or Lovina, and has more of a big city feel, including many American fast food chains.
But I was still able to find the Balinese architecture and design that so beautifully graces the landscape.
